Yes, I’m still sewing like a mad woman, but working on a few things that I can’t share just yet!
Today I finished a little quilt top that I started at the Bryce Winter Retreat that I went to this past February… It measures appoximately 12 x 15 inches.
The pattern is by Carol Johnson… She has a whole series of these landscape quilts. I’ve always enjoyed her work! I wanted to try this binding technique that has you use a phalange (however it’s spelled… LOL!) sewn into 2 strips of binding. It’s sewn onto the back of the quilt, pulled to the front and then top stitched in place. It is machine bound… You can see the thread holding it in place on the phalange. I am going to stitch the corners in place by hand just to give it a little more form.
This is the one thing that I didn’t care for… Where the start and finish join up. Has anyone else done this technique and know how I can make it prettier?! LOL!
I am a bit of a perfectionist…
Thanks for stopping by!!!

Is that how phlange is spelled? I’ve tried it every way I can think of and spell check still says it’s wrong! LOL! Thanks Carla!

Love your landscapes!!!! I’ve only seen this technique and not done it. I have some more mug rugs to do and may use this on them. I’ll let you know if I come up with a good joining/ending.

Thank you!!! I’ve been drawing wood grain on paper for years… Thought it would be fun to try it on fabric!

Love your landscape. I’ve taken a number of classes from Carol. Love her landscapes!
Here’s a nice tutorial on that binding method. Near the end she shows how to match them up nicely. Of course, it does take some practice.
