Layton Quilt Guild… Re-purposing “Cutter” Quilts…

At Quilt Guild on Thursday, Lorri taught us to make re-purposed items out of vintage quilts.  It was very hard for a couple of us to cut into the quilts, although it did help that they had already been cut!  LOL! Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to do it!

I have a thing for all things vintage quilting, and it almost hurt to cut my heart out.   Lorri assured us that the quilt will still live on in the sweet pillows that we made!

IMG_1180I cut one of these as well…  Can you imagine?  This quilt was never finished…  I’ll quilt this one by hand before I make it into a pillow.

Thanks for visiting!

I personally couldn’t have cut them up… I am very attached to vintage quilts, holes and all. 🙂 Fortunately I was late to the sew-in!

Explanation noted. What was left certainly appeared to be in decent condition. Around here vintage quilts that are in worse condition are treasured for their history. Each location is different.

I can’t imagine cutting up a vintage quilt either!! Cute pillow though.

Luckily the quilts were a LOT more worn out than it looks in the photos. Right Ruthie? I think our heart pillows turned out amazing!

Agree with treadlemusic – heartbreaking. However, if they were as worn as described then heartmaking is a great way to recycle them once more 🙂
