My UFO finishes for May…

June 1, 2018

As you probably remember, I was pretty bummed not to finish any UFO’s last month…  (In the Utah Quilt Guild, we have been challenged to finish as many UFO’s as possible this year.  My personal goal is to finish half of my counted UFO’s, which is 30 of 60!  A UFO is an “Un- Finished Object”.)

Last month wasn’t exactly stellar, but I did manage to finish 2!  (Plus I’ve made oodles of progress on about 4 more…)

I completed this one in the nick of time!  It was made up with 25 3 inch blocks I received last year from members of Layton Quilt Guild for being President…  I added the green blocks to give it an “Irish Chain” look.  Yay for finish 1!

My next finish is from a billion years ago.  Or maybe 15?  Long time!!!  It’s my Christmas Sew and Save quilt.  I had started doing some applique and embroidery on it and stalled out as the metallic thread I was using wasn’t terribly soft.

Oh well…  I unpicked a small section that I had barely started and quilted some motif in there…  Bwahahaha.  No idea what, and I’m too lazy to look!

And “Ta Da!”  All done!

Here’s the back so you can see what I like to do with left-overs!

Thanks for visiting!!!  See you all next month!

Smooches…

Missing in action, or Too busy to be believed?

September 16, 2016

Yes, I am still in the land of the living.  I told my friend Susie that I hadn’t been on the computer in about a week.

She’s said, “I think it’s been longer than that!”  Well, sure enough, it’s been almost 2 weeks!

I have been sewing sewing sewing…  Here are a few of the things I’ve been working on…

100_5352I quilted this quilt for my “Quilty Hugs” group that donates to local charities.  Emily with http://www.auntemsquilts.com/ has a group that meets with her once a month to work on these quilts…

100_5359This is Roy Quilt Guild members who have finished working on their mystery quilts.  (Okay, the 2 on the left are mine as I taught the mystery!)  I’ll post more next month as the tops come in…

100_5371And here’s my little quilt at the fair…  😉

100_5394This is Susie’s quilt that I quilted for her which she created using Emily’s pattern!  (I love that!)

100_5397I quilted this for a client!

100_5400And last, but not least is my “Going Coastal” quilty for the MQTS group on flickr.

It’s a pattern that I revamped a bit from a previous mini quilt that I designed.

I wanted something that represented Patrick’s State Park in California where we camped this summer.

Whew!

Thanks for stopping by!  I’ll try to be better next time!  😉

Going “Coastal”…

September 5, 2016

Working on Pieces and Parts for my Coastal Swap on MQTS on flickr…  I drafted out my design and I’m starting with my piecing.  I decided to make 2 of them, one for me and one for my partner.  100_5348

Yes, I know my cutting board looks like crap, but it’s just a leftover I’m making use of!

100_5350The main piece is together!    I’m so glad I get to keep one!

Thanks for stopping by…

I can show it now…

December 28, 2015

I quilted this lovely quilt for one of the gals in my local guild…  She did a beautiful job on the applique!127_0816I really loved this one…  She got to show it at last quilt guild so now I can as well!

If you click on the picture you may be able to see the quilting a little bit better…

Thanks for visiting!

Trunk Full of Quilts!

November 10, 2015

My good friend Soma at http://www.whimsandfancies.com is hosting an online Trunk Show…  For those of you who follow my blog may have guessed, I have a trunk, closet, house, and garage full of quilts!  Lots of them are little…  But I have my share of big ones as well.Stained Glass mini quilt

This little quilt was created for a “Not Square or Rectangle” mini quilt swap on flickr.  I used a stained glass pattern, and bias strips for the black.  I love this technique!

Mini coin quilt made for Wolfmom2ac

This little quilt was made for a Chinese Coin Swap on flickr…  I used bullion roses to decorate the bottom.

Here We Sit Placemat PQS3

This was for a place mat swap on flickr…  (You’ll definitely see a theme here!)

This is a close up of the quilting on a Modern Doll Quilt Swap.

100_5685

I made this little quilt for the precious baby sitting on it!

???????????????????????????????

And this is me in my tiara, having won the “Recycled Quilt” Challenge for Roy Quilt Guild!  The petals are made from Pistachio shells.  I drilled holes in them and stitched them on like buttons…

IMG_1743

I made this little NYB to swap with one of my friends…  She made me 2 applique quilt tops in return!

IMG_1902

I made this quilt with scraps for Happy Chemo.  I took lots of pictures of it on a looong drive to Northern Montana.

This little snowman quilt was made for a swap on flickr…

IMG_2602

I donated this little quilted clock to the Utah State Quilt Guild for a fundraiser.

In Layton, we swapped pre-cut teacups with fusible already applied.  We were challenged to bring in our quilts the following month.  This is what I came up with!

???????????????????????????????

I know, you’re supposed to love all your children equally, but this is one of my favorite quilts!  I was given several of the flower die cuts in Layton Quilt Guild as an on time drawing.  I incorporated them into my “Show Stopper” challenge quilt which was supposed to show movement.

Power of 13 Challenge Quilt

This is my Challenge quilt I made for Roy Quilt Guild.  It represents “The Power of 13”  I was given a fat quarter, and a package of buttons and came up with this design.  It has 13 (or multiples) of each item.  Plus I quilted 13 on the right hand side.

IMG_0146

This was a swap piece that I experimented using micro quilting and fabric paint on…  Love the way this came out!

IMG_0246

This was a Fair Challenge Quilt  summer before last.  I used a UFO block I had made in a class in the center and designed the quilt around it.

???????????????????????????????

Who doesn’t love Rat Zombie?!  I still see a future in store for him…

IMG_0783

I quilted this quilt for Roy Quilt Guild using “Bingo blocks” we had made.  I added the white strips on the diagonal.

IMG_1334

My claim to fame!  (Or infamy as the case may be…)  I swapped these house blocks with my friend Silvana over 12 months.  When we were finished, I designed the quilt.  I’d live here, wouldn’t you?!

IMG_2904

Another flickr swap…  I designed this myself.

IMG_3203

This quilt was for the RJR Landscape Challenge at HMQS this year.  It won an honorable mention…  I called it “Crayon Canyon”.

DSC_3685

This was made using the underwater/beach theme blocks I received in the BBC (Bitty Block Committee) on flickr.

127_0581

We exchanged fabric colors in a small group that I belong to, “Prairie Fairies”.  I put mine together differently for sake of the quilting.

127_0727

This is this years’ Utah State Fair Challenge Quilt.  The challenge fabric is the white with circle designs.

127_0753

I made this one for a Kaffe Swap on FB.

127_0790

Just finished this little quilt as a gift…

Thanks for joining me in Whims and Fancies “A Trunk Full of Quilts”!  Feel free to follow me by entering your email address in the sidebar!

And here’s a little more progress…

August 31, 2015

The deadline for the Utah State Fair is rapidly approaching…  I’ll share my challenge quilt when the Fair opens!  Before the deadline on Thursday, I have to get my label made and sewn on.  I also have to get the quilt ready for hanging.  It’s almost there!

These are some projects that I’ve been working on as well…

127_0650This is a “Happy Chemo” quilt that is going to be turned in this week.

127_0647I got this one quilted for m partner in the Kaffe Mini Quilt Swap.  The deadline for that is coming up as well!

127_0648This is another layout of the same quilt, with the blocks positioned differently.

(You may see something similar with my Fair Challenge Quilt, but shhhh….  Don’t tell!)

I have 2 more client quilts to get quilted, but both are relatively small.  More coming soon!  Thanks for stopping by…

Another Swap! Kaffe Deliciousness!

August 14, 2015

Well, I know this will surprise some of you, but I’m doing another swap!

This one is on Facebook and is making use of Kaffe Fassett Fabric Collection…  I love these fabrics!

DSC_4999These are my arcs…  I’m making them in grey and beige.  One for my partner, and one for me…

I just finished the top of one of them.127_0630I have to say how much I love the color paired with the grey!  I still have to get the beige one put together.

And then get them quilted.  Hmmm…  I’ll be thinking about how I want to do that.

Thanks for stopping by!

A little sneak peek and my super secret project thread…

March 16, 2015

The deadline for the Mini QT Swap “Folkart theme” is rapidly approaching…  Had to get moving on it as it’s due at the end of the month.  (As is the super secret project!  Yikes!)  I got a good start on the mini quilt yesterday as I didn’t have what I needed for the SSP, and I was home with kids.  This is what I’m teasing my partner with…IMG_2844I’ll show this one when she receives it.  (It may look vaguely familiar!  LOL!)

And this is what I needed for the SSP…

IMG_2843Don’t you love thread lined up in rainbow colors?  I do!  So happy!

Thanks for visiting!  See you next time…

A friends quilt…

November 7, 2014

My friend just gave me this little baby quilt to FMQ for her new grand baby due in a few weeks…  I love the traditional feeling of this one, and really wanted to quilt it as it would have been done hand quilted.

I followed the checkerboard pattern using a feather stitch and filled it in with a grid background.  IMG_1170There has to be an easier way to do it, but I haven’t found it yet!  LOL!  I used strips of tape to mark it with.  (The last grid quilting I did bled when I spritzed out the markings…)  I surrounded the center section with my least favorite motif, meander.  (I’m not terribly comfortable with it!)

I used a pebble stitch in the narrow yellow sashing.  Then I finished it up with a leaf motif along the edges, and a floral along the top and bottom sections.

IMG_1164

IMG_1172Here’s a picture of the back…

???????????????????????????????The whole thing…  I love the use of 30’s fabric in this, and I really enjoyed quilting it!

Thanks for stopping  by!

Caroling Snow Globe…

October 21, 2014

The theme for this round of BBC blocks (The Bitty Block Committee) in flickr is “Winter Snow Globes”.  This is the little pattern I designed for my block.IMG_0882Normally, I would do fusible applique for a block like this, but I haven’t had any luck since Steam A Seam 2 Lite went off the market.

I understand that they’re coming back soon!  (I keep checking at my local hobby retailer without any luck!)

So I am needle turning all 10 of them!  It will take me a while to get them done, but I have a little over a month!

The other set will be for crows, ravens, magpies, etc…  That pattern is drafted, but I don’t have a model made up yet.

Guess that will be my next post!  LOL!
