I’ve been working on this lovely table topper made by one of my good friends, Sue! I’ll post a picture of the whole thing as soon as she receives it in the mail!!!

Secondly, while taking a walk we saw a gentleman skating on our local pond.  We decided to give it a go!

???????????????????????????????No, I have no fashion sense!!!  See how new my skates look?  There’s a reason for that!   LOL!

My DH had to get 15 years of dust off of his…  Thanks for skating by!

Wow! Wow! Wow! Can you see all the embroidery on this little masterpiece?! Karen (Sewgentle) outdid herself with the little quilt she sent to me in the Mini QT Swap… Thank you Karen! I’ll try to post a better picture tomorrow!

This little quilt is just beautiful! The French knots and wording for il neige are a special touch! I am so excited to have this!!! The little appliques on the branches represent the seasons. It is just lovely! Can’t you see why I can’t help but swap?! Hi, my name is Ruthie, and I’m a swap-a-holic…

Working on a “little” something…

January 14, 2014

Once again, I’m working on a deadline!

I’ve almost completed a dozen of these little blocks today!  1 inch finished.  They aren’t paper pieced either!  LOL!  Who’d have thought it?!  These are done as an asterisk block…  I saw a tute here: http://selvageblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/quilt-along-asterisk-quilt-post-2.html a long time ago.  I’ve used the technique several times!IMG_2246More to come…  Thanks for stopping by!  XOXO

Here’s the Harvest Stars quilt with the house border in it’s entirety! This pattern was taught by the designer, my friend Emily for the Roy Quilt Guild. We had a Saturday Sew-In, and I made 6 of the blocks.  I added the house border because I love ’em!  LOL!  I’m so pleased with this little throw!  Still have to add some scrappy binding, but the hard part is done!!!

One minute after I took this, Milo knocked it down! He’s so naughty!IMG_2174Here’s a close up of the quilting on the back…IMG_2173And another view!

Hope you enjoy your Christmas Holiday!  We’re going to eat naughty tomorrow…  Thank goodness for the dreadmill!  Yup, that’s what I meant to say…  Thanks for visiting!!!

I’m working on this little quilt top that I made using Aunt Em’s pattern “Harvest Stars”. I added a house border as I seem to have an addiction for houses!!! LOL!   My quilting has improved enough that I am willing to take on that stack of UFO tops!!!  I’ve got about 10 of them not to mention that many quilt block stacks…IMG_2168Here’s a close up of the houses and outside border….

Thanks for visiting!!!

Quilting Under the Influence…

Late night fmq... by ruthiequilts
Late night fmq…, a photo by ruthiequilts on Flickr.

First of all, if this topic is offensive to anyone, you have my apologies… Please visit one of my other stories!

Back when I  started fmq’ing (free motion quilting) I would have achy, sore shoulders, as I hunched over my sewing machine. Most of the time I stuck to grid quilting with my walking foot. (Still suffering from sore achy shoulders!)

As the years progressed, I found that if I have a glass or 2 of wine as I’m working, I loosen up and am not so tense. When I say a glass or two, that really is a fine balance!  A little too much, and you could sew through your finger.  Ouch.  Yes, I have done that!  Not quite enough, and you go back to sore, achy shoulders.  And for me, herky jerky stitching.

I normally don’t encourage vices, but this is the one time where quilting under the influence can be a helpful thing!  I would suggest setting your glass of wine on a separate table so you don’t spill it on your project!  That would be tragic!  And I like to use a coffee cup, or heck, a tumbler rather than a wine glass.  If you ask me, wine glasses were designed to be spilled.  If you’re drinking from a plastic tumbler, I’d limit myself to 1 “glass”!  LOL!

It gives a whole new meaning to “happy hour” when you’re quilting!

Halloween BBC block…

Halloween BBC block... by ruthiequilts
Halloween BBC block…, a photo by ruthiequilts on Flickr.

Here is my block for the BBC theme, “Halloween Re-visited”! I made this little bat pattern last year for the Scrappy Mug Rug Swap. He was part of  “Edy’s Candy Corn Kitchen” that I made for my swap partner, Edyb1. I had such a hard time sending that one away, that I had to make the bats for those of us in the BBC (Bitty Block Committee)… I get to keep one this time!

This block was inspired by a scrap of fabric one of my friends gave me several years ago… There were a bunch of fa “boo” lous witches creating candy corns! I wish I had 10 yards of that fabric, instead of a puny scrap! LOL! If anyone know what line it is or who the designer is, please let me know!

Wonky Stars on black…

Wonky Stars on black…, a photo by ruthiequilts on Flickr.

For the Layton guild, the UFO that was drawn was my “Star Quilt”. This was a BBC block swap a year or so ago. The theme was wonky stars on black! I thought it would be fun if I sashed the 12- 3 inch blocks using wonky stars for the corners! One of my flickr friends, Spiced Coffee sent me some great little boxes of fabric samples. I made use of the them for the scrappy look!

My wrist is unhappy right now, so I can’t do any handwork on it, but I think I’ll machine quilt it and wait to bind it until my wrist is happy again. I am supposed to wear a brace for the next month. Crap. LOL! (That seriously cuts into my hand-work time!)
