Sewing sewing sewing…

April 26, 2016

Like a mad woman, I am!  I have been uber busy trying to stay caught up with all of my Guild projects over the last couple of weeks.  Thought you might like to see what I’m working on!

102_1100In Layton Quilt Guild we’re exchanging mugrugs each month.  This is the rug I made for “Rain” theme this month.

102_1101And then we’ve been doing a “Swaffle” block.  For each block we make we get our name in for a drawing to win the blocks.  I made 2, but didn’t win…  LOL!  Next time maybe!

102_1103And here are the Wonky Houses that I’m teaching the ladies in Layton Quilt Guild to make…

102_1106Just for fun, I wanted to show you the quilt that I worked on at “Happy Chemo” over the last several months.  It’s all finished and ready to go tot it’s recipient!  I love this one!

I have loads more to share at an upcoming post…  And HMQS is coming up in a couple of weeks!!!  I’m going shopping!

Thanks for joining me!

Mug Rug I made for Layton Quilt Guild’s swap…

March 18, 2016

I made this little mug rug for a swap in my local guild…  The theme was, “A touch of green.”  I quilted the area first, and then painted it with fabric paints.

I really love this technique!  Irena Bluhm told me how she does it on FB a while ago.  This is the third little piece that I’ve done.

Thanks for visiting!

Hmmm… I don’t think I ever showed this one! LOL!

December 3, 2015

In Layton Quilt Guild we did a “I Heard it on Vinyl” challenge.  Were were supposed to create a quilt based on a vinyl record.

Well, any excuse to make a Wizard of Oz theme quilt is good enough for me!  Mine is based on, you guessed it~  “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”! performed by Judy Garland.  Here is my interpretation:127_0824

I paper pieced mine.  I saw a quilt several years ago on flickr that I loved that inspired me to make this one…  It was created by Lolablueocean.  Mine is considerably different, but has the same feeling!  I love me some text fabric!

Trunk Full of Quilts!

November 10, 2015

My good friend Soma at http://www.whimsandfancies.com is hosting an online Trunk Show…  For those of you who follow my blog may have guessed, I have a trunk, closet, house, and garage full of quilts!  Lots of them are little…  But I have my share of big ones as well.Stained Glass mini quilt

This little quilt was created for a “Not Square or Rectangle” mini quilt swap on flickr.  I used a stained glass pattern, and bias strips for the black.  I love this technique!

Mini coin quilt made for Wolfmom2ac

This little quilt was made for a Chinese Coin Swap on flickr…  I used bullion roses to decorate the bottom.

Here We Sit Placemat PQS3

This was for a place mat swap on flickr…  (You’ll definitely see a theme here!)

I made this little quilt for the precious baby sitting on it!

???????????????????????????????

And this is me in my tiara, having won the “Recycled Quilt” Challenge for Roy Quilt Guild!  The petals are made from Pistachio shells.  I drilled holes in them and stitched them on like buttons…

IMG_1743

I made this little NYB to swap with one of my friends…  She made me 2 applique quilt tops in return!

IMG_1902

I made this quilt with scraps for Happy Chemo.  I took lots of pictures of it on a looong drive to Northern Montana.

I donated this little quilted clock to the Utah State Quilt Guild for a fundraiser.

In Layton, we swapped pre-cut teacups with fusible already applied.  We were challenged to bring in our quilts the following month.  This is what I came up with!

???????????????????????????????

I know, you’re supposed to love all your children equally, but this is one of my favorite quilts!  I was given several of the flower die cuts in Layton Quilt Guild as an on time drawing.  I incorporated them into my “Show Stopper” challenge quilt which was supposed to show movement.

Power of 13 Challenge Quilt

This is my Challenge quilt I made for Roy Quilt Guild.  It represents “The Power of 13”  I was given a fat quarter, and a package of buttons and came up with this design.  It has 13 (or multiples) of each item.  Plus I quilted 13 on the right hand side.

IMG_0146

This was a swap piece that I experimented using micro quilting and fabric paint on…  Love the way this came out!

IMG_0246

This was a Fair Challenge Quilt  summer before last.  I used a UFO block I had made in a class in the center and designed the quilt around it.

???????????????????????????????

Who doesn’t love Rat Zombie?!  I still see a future in store for him…

IMG_0783

I quilted this quilt for Roy Quilt Guild using “Bingo blocks” we had made.  I added the white strips on the diagonal.

IMG_1334

My claim to fame!  (Or infamy as the case may be…)  I swapped these house blocks with my friend Silvana over 12 months.  When we were finished, I designed the quilt.  I’d live here, wouldn’t you?!

IMG_2904

Another flickr swap…  I designed this myself.

IMG_3203

This quilt was for the RJR Landscape Challenge at HMQS this year.  It won an honorable mention…  I called it “Crayon Canyon”.

This was made using the underwater/beach theme blocks I received in the BBC (Bitty Block Committee) on flickr.

127_0581

We exchanged fabric colors in a small group that I belong to, “Prairie Fairies”.  I put mine together differently for sake of the quilting.

This is this years’ Utah State Fair Challenge Quilt.  The challenge fabric is the white with circle designs.

Such a precious gift…

May 8, 2015

As many of you may know, I lost my Mother in February to a long battle with Alzheimers.

I have belonged to a group on flickr  for several years called the “Epiphany Group” that makes quilts for online friends who

are having a difficult time.

This time, I was the recipient… DSC_0010My online friends (and one sneaky local friend) each made a block, and sent them on to Quiltedoma (Andrea) who stitched them into a quilt top.  Batting and backing was donated by members and the quilt was quilted by CASharp (Cindy) from “Tops To Treasures”  Bouncypoodle (Pattiann) bound it and applied the label and then Nannette invited my to breakfast.

DSC_0016Nann made the special delivery in person!

DSC_0011My friends made this in my favorite colors…  Each block is a  master piece!

DSC_0100I’ll post some close-ups so you can see them all…DSC_0101

Results of Roy Quilt Guild Challenge!

August 20, 2014

Here are the results of the Roy Quilt Guild Challenge…  They didn’t have to be quilts, and it was really fun to see the variety of entries!

IMG_0182Here is Paulas…  I love this one!  She incorporated a UFO block into the wall hanging.  (The green embroidered piece…)

IMG_0183 Here’s mine…  The labels were judged as well.  I took first for both.  (Although there were more creative labels than mine…  I just used an extra block?)

IMG_0184Here’s Midjes…  I love the vase!

IMG_0185Here is Marie’s beautiful bag which features lace she did on her embroidery machine…

IMG_0186I love this one that Rebecca did…  It is so pretty!  And she used one of the pincushion dress forms they sell at craft stores.

IMG_0187Sheri did a 3D piece as well…  It came out great!

IMG_0188Linda made a fashionable set of place mats so she can eat in style…

IMG_0189Sharon’s really made me laugh!  It is an awesome acrylic ruler holder!!!  Each area features a pocket to store her cutting rulers in…  She said she smiled every time she worked

on it!  Way to go everyone!!!  What a fun challenge!  Thanks to Karen for creating it and helping us all step out of our comfort zones!!!

Roy Quilt Guild Challenge…

August 16, 2014

IMG_0159I belong to 3 quilt guilds.  Two local and one state.  Roy Quilt Guild had a challenge to incorporate fabrics and embellishments into a quilted “item”.

We also had to incorporate something new we used on our items.  I have done a whole bunch of experimenting so I struggled to come up with something new.   Then

I thought, “I’ve never marked a quilt prior to quilting it…”  That was my new technique!

It didn’t have to specifically be a quilt.  This is the wall hanging that I designed.  I used a block technique that I had seen on facebook, and arranged them on-point.IMG_0151The center four star blocks are part of a 9 patch, while the outer 4 star blocks had setting triangles on either side which make up the center square.  Then I added larger triangles to all 4 sides to get that square overlay look…  (Plus a nice big open space to feature the quilting!)

Then I had to add embellishments.IMG_0153I took 2 different silk flowers and cut them in half to make up each flower unit.  Used the gold netting that was a challenge fabric and made it into a center

“poof”, then finishing up with beads.  In the center, I used shells and a button.  This was a fun challenge!  Results of the challenge coming up later…

Thanks for stopping by!

Power of 13 Swap!

June 28, 2014

Hi everyone!  Sorry I’ve been gone for a bit…  I had a family reunion and then we went camping!  More to come on these activities later…

First, I wanted to share a little something that I made for a Challenge Quilt for Roy Quilt Guild in 2013.  The theme was “The Power of 13”.Power of 13 Challenge QuiltThis was my challenge quilt…  Using math (*gasp*) I came up with the pattern for 13 spikes on my wheel.  The center circle is 13 inches across.  There are 26 (13 x’s 2) buttons, 13 rouched roses, 13 shells, and 13 of each type of leaf.  13 lace flowers, 13 yo yo flowers, 13 prairie points on each of the spikes.  And I quilted “13” on the R hand side.  LOL!  One of my Aunts, (thanks Elaine for the picture!!!) saw it at the reunion that year and agreed to a swap with me.  She makes the most beautiful hand carved gourds and eggs!  IMG_4269This is the most incredible work of art that I received in return from her!  It has 13 trees, each with 13 leaves/blossoms etc. on them!  The carving that she does in these gourds is just stunning.  Being that they’re fragile, she can put in numerous hours in one piece only to have it break near the end after all the cuts are made.  This picture doesn’t do it justice, but I had to share the story!

Thanks Aunt Elaine!!!

IMG_4272Two of my favorite ladies!!!  XOXO Ruth

Thanks for stopping by!  (I’ll be posting more shortly!)
