I was commissioned to make a baby quilt for a gal’s first grand baby… I made this little quilt as a wallhanging and thought it would be a sweet baby quilt. The pattern is from “Quilts With Style” March/April 2007… I moved things around a bit, and enlarged it to 130%. I added the checkerboard border and am ready to add the final outside border. Then sandwich and eat, er… quilt. It’s a relief to have this almost finished!!!

Here’s my little Chipmunk with his fall storage for the BBC Fall/Thanksgiving theme… This is the second draft. The first one looked more like a chipmunk but was too complicated! I decided to spare my sanity…

Yesterday I received this fabulous package made for me in the Scrappy MugRug Swap on flickr… This was made by Snailexpress. It is such a happy little rug! Definitely too cute to put any drinks on though…

It will go with my pink and green collection on the wall behind my computer! It’s so peaceful (pieceful? LOL!) to look at!

Look what I got!

One to one pincushion swap- side view... by ruthiequilts

I am an admin for a flickr group. On occasion, we get a request for a new member that doesn’t have any swap experience. I offer to swap with them if they have some of their art/quilty works in their photostream and look like they might be a good fit with the group. This way, we can ensure new members have some swap history under their belts.

Sadly to say, I have seen enough flakers and slackers that I want to make sure all swappers receive a wonderful little quilt! (Slackers mail late routinely, and flakers just up and disappear after their swaps have arrived to them and never send to their partners.)

I received this beautiful little pinnie from Jeanfiberarts today!!! It is beautifully made, and I always love quality wool projects!!! Thanks Jean! I love it!

Now to get busy making something for Jean!

After working on my mugrug, off and on all morning, this is where I am! It feels good to have it in one piece! Now to add some embroidery…

This is going to be for my secret swap partner in the Scrappy Mug Rug Swap. I made the 2 tea cup patterns for another swap, the Bitty Block Bee, and wanted to re-purpose them!
I added the flower pot today and the appliqued flower… I hope my partner will like it!

Woo hoo! I got my little quilt back from the Roy Round Robin. I love everything about it!!! I made the little house block in the center, and then the gals in the guild added to it row by row. The first row with the hearts in vases and the fence and trees was made by Rebecca… The next row with the appliqued flowers was made by Denise… Sherri did the row with the checkerboard and house fabric, and Sherry did the final framing!!!! It came out beautifully!!! I am so excited!!! Thanks everyone! (Okay, so none of them are on flickr or read my blog regularly, but I have to try, right?! LOL!)

Yes, this is the notorious bindweed... by ruthiequilts
Yes, this is the notorious bindweed…, a photo by ruthiequilts on Flickr.

I made blocks for the BBC theme, “My Garden”… Here’s the evidence of the weed that I have growing quite well everywhere in my yard! Darn bindweed! (Also known as “Morning glory”.) It loves my blackberry bushes, along with everything else!

These are the blackberries that I picked today!  It is fairly early in the season to have this many blackberries, but they are doing beautifully since my hubbie put a drip hose underneath the base of the bushes.  (I didn’t water them last year, and all the blackberries dried and withered on the bush.)  Now I don’t have to remember to water them.

I am going to start work on wiping out the bindweed this fall!  One of the gals I know said to use a milk jug on it side with straight weed killer in it.  Then make a hole and “string” the bindweed in through the side, so it can take a nice big drink!  Fall is supposed to be the best time to do it!  Wish me luck!

In my garden… Group 1

Is it wrong that I used my nemesis as my model for this block?!!! It’s the bane of my existence… Bindweed! Otherwise known as morning-glory. It has a pretty flower, but it takes over every area where it comes up! I wouldn’t mind it so much if it stayed pretty, but it weighs down my plants and eventually chokes out my perennials! Bah! LOL!

I used recycled wool felt to make the red flowers, and added a little embroidery.  I think I may add some beads in the center of the red flowers for some “bling”.  I need to make 11 more of these.  I have all the little circle applique shapes ready to be sewn onto the background.
